Contest Featuring Themed Table Settings Offers Artistic Creativity

Pre-Registration Accepted July 16 – August 15

Puyallup, WA – June 26, 2009 – If you love to plan events and parties, and have a special flair to create fascinating table settings, then this is a contest you will love. The Puyallup Fair is again bringing back the Table Setting Contest, featuring four different themes, with pre-registration entries due between July 16 and August 15, 2009. Entries are processed in order of arrival, and will NOT be accepted before July 16th.

Cash prizes for each category are $25 for first place, $15 for second place, and $10 for third place. The grand champion will receive a $100 gift certificate at Pacific Fabric & Crafts. Categories this year include: “Spring Fling,” “Autumn Woods Picnic,” “Midsummer Night’s Dream Dinner,” and “Winter Wonderland Rendezvous.” These categories are all for a setting for two. Three entries in each class will be selected to be shown at the Fair.

You will be notified by mail if your application is accepted. Those selected will need to bring their own card table and table setting to the Home Arts Dept. on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at a specific time.

Contestants must provide their own square or round card table (with no extensions or additions for size augmentation), linens, table setting, and decorations. No flatware, fresh flowers or perishable items are permitted. Paper and plastic is permitted where appropriate. A menu should be included for the chosen category. Winners are chosen based on decorativeness/eye appeal (30 points), originality/creativity (25 points), suitability for occasion (25 points), and the presence of handmade articles (20 points). Entrants must be at least 16-years-old to enter.

The Puyallup Fair first started in 1900. This Pacific Northwest tradition is one of the top ten fairs in the world in attendance, and features big name entertainment, the PRCA Rodeo, rides, exhibits, food, flowers, and animals.
